Canadian Legal System and Legal Education

This seminar will explain the essential elements of the Canadian legal system, focusing on (i) the constitutional division of powers between the federal and provincial governments, (ii) the protection of rights under Canadian Charter of Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, (iii) the role of the common law and , in Quebec, the civil law (iv) the nature and organization of the Canadian government and the court system, and (v) Canadian legal education and requirements for professional qualification.
